There is absolutely no lyricism or anything remotely entertaining about Gucci at all. He is the worst rapper to get his own album I have ever heard. The fact that he has a flawless 5 star average makes me very worried for the future of humanity.

I have been a loyal fan of Gucci’s since “So Icey” dropped. I have purchased almost all of his independent albums and all have been good albums. This album comes out with Gucci’s buzz at an all time high and it seems like he worked hard on this album to satisfy his long time fans and his fairly new fans. The production list is impressive and the guest features are on point. Gucci definitely adds some lyrical prowess to his game and the album is a very strong overall album. Highly recommended to any long time Gucci fan and to his “newer” fans wondering what everyone is talking about when they hear about this “Gucci Mane” guy.

Southern Classic, from start to finish…Gucci kept it real and still was able to step out into the commercial lane without crossing over….Gucci has came a long way from So Icey til now…If he wasn’t in jail this would get the proper promotion it deserves…BUUUR!….Jeezy, TIP yall up next, lets get it

Many of the reviews posted for this album have been by fans who hadn’t previously been fans of Gucci Mane that have been converted. Alternately, I’ve been a fan of Gucci since “So Icey” many, many years ago. In my opinion, you couldn’t have written a better story to Gucci’s rise to this point. He started off with an independent label, dropped a street anthem and got his contract sold to a bigger label. He dropped a “not-so-known” CD and got dropped. A tear drop and several jail stints later he’s finally coming into his own.
To me, the best rap albums are the ones preceding the artist’s “Superstar” classification. For example, Jeezy went his hardest on “Thug Motivation” and “Inspiration”. TI had “Urban Legend” and “The King”. To me, “The State vs. Radric Davis” falls into this category. Gucci has always had a following of loyal fans, but now the mainstream is starting to catch up. If you live in Atlanta you hear Gucci’s influence in radio playlists (“Wasted”, Mario’s “Break Up”, and “Spotlight”) and up-and-coming artists (Juiceman, Souja Boy, etc.). As a fan it’s bittersweet. You love watching an artist overcome his struggles and rise to fame but at the same time you hate to watch how mainstream influences can alter them.
“The State vs. Radric Davis” is an album which sees Gucci stay true to his stoopid style while also expanding his subject matter. In Bad,Bad,Bad he flows about the running through women while also feeling constantly lonely. In the intro track “Classical” (my favorite track on the album) Gucci laments on his constant legal troubles while in “Worst Enemy” he downplays feuds with T.I. and Jeezy. “Y’all don’t owe respect to me and I don’t like apologies/ Just diss me til you’re satisfied, I swear it doesn’t bother me.” Wow.
While growing as an artist, Gucci also stays true to his roots with the weed anthem “Kush is my Cologne”, a party jam “Wasted” and a song about his chains “Heavy”. Others have said that the album is straight to ride all the way through. I wouldn’t agree with that but I will say that this is a must-own for all Gucci fans and casual rap listeners owe it to themselves to at least check it out. Like many others have already said, Gucci could surprise you.
